Designing innovative learning\ 013222 Designing Innovative Learning Student Guide Assessment 1: Articulating a Learning Scenario Value: 40% Length: 2,500 words (excluding references) Over ... view This assessment task is designed to encourage you to explore contexts and processes for designing learning initiatives which are embedded in the literature. Ideally, you will be applying your learning to your own work contexts. Your task is to outline a learning scenario from your own professional practice and critically discuss the purpose, rationale, and context of the proposed learning initiative. Your arguments must be supported by the literature and grounded in theory. The output of this assessment is a structured essay which demonstrates your capacity to use the theoretical approaches/models from class to develop the practice scenario and adopt a critical reflective view of program design models/approaches by justifying their selection. You will later use your selected program design approach to design the learning initiative for Assessment 2. Assessment criteria linkages Criteria Weight Subject Learning Objective a. Depth and criticality of analysis of the context of the learning scenario supported by the literature 35% a b. Clarity and breadth of the articulation of the learning scenario 35% b c. Appropriateness and justification of model used for learning scenario supported by the literature 20% a d. Clarity of expression and logical structuring of argument 10% b Format The format is expected to be a structured essay where you are encouraged to use headings to delineate different sections. Your essay should comprise mostly paragraphs with occasional use of bullet points and diagrams as appropriate. There is no minimum number of references but it is expected that you use appropriate references mainly from the academic literature supplemented by professional sources as appropriate. At a minimum you should be using readings from class. Your references are expected to comply with APA 6 referencing style. Your references should be primarily from peer reviewed sources (i.e. journal articles), books, or other periodicals. You should not rely on websites, blogs, etc. for your information unless strictly necessary (e.g. company websites). Detailed Task Description This assessment task is designed to help you to critically engage with different approaches to program design and to apply what you are learning to your own work context (where possible). There are two options to choose from: 1. Option 1 – Your own workplace learning scenario Option 1 is preferable if you want to apply the theory and discussions from class to address a learning design issue or project within your own work context. This may be a scenario from your current work context or a past scenario that you would like to revisit. You need to select a learning scenario for which you can later design a learning initiative for your final assessment. 2. Option 2 – Negotiated topic Option 2 is an alternative if you are not currently in relevant professional context where you can identify a learning scenario requiring program design. This option allows you to negotiate a customised topic with the lecturer. If you want to select option two, then please speak to the lecturer as soon as possible at the start of the semester. For both of these options the process is the same. Once you have identified the learning scenario that you would like to investigate, you then need to select the most appropriate program design approach or model to address the need that you have identified and justify your selection with reference to the theories and approaches discussed in class. You will later use this approach to design your learning initiative for Assessment 3. NOTE: You do NOT need to design the learning program at this stage! You then need to write a structured essay that demonstrates your capacity to use the theoretical approaches/ models to develop the practice scenario and adopt a critical reflective view of program design models/approaches by justifying your selection.
