CHEM 120 Unit 4 Discussion: Chemistry in the World Around Us 100% CORRECT SOLUTIONS CERTIFIED GRAE A SCORE Initial Post Instructions While we often do not realize it, acidic and basic solutions ... are a part of our daily lives. Pick a solution in your home, work, or even outside (be sure to check the label to make sure that whatever you are measuring is nonhazardous and water based). Some possible solutions are shampoos, beverages, still water in your backyard, contact solution, etc. Research a compound or compounds found in your chosen solution, citing your sources in APA format and predict if the solution would be acidic or basic. Hey class, the solution that I use on a weekly basis is a Shea Moisture shampoo, Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo. It's an intensive hydration shampoo that moisturizes really well and is sulfate-free. The first ingredient is water and the second ingredient is decyl glucoside. The formula of decyl glucoside is C16H32O6. Decyl Glucoside is plant-derived and biodegradable. It's a cleanser that is labeled as a non-ionic surfactant, meaning it has a neutral charge and lowers the surface tension of water. (Natural Citizen 2015) I believe this compound is basic the pH is 11.5-12.5. Overall the shampoo I use has a pH of 5-7, making it acidic because of the physical nature of hair. Natural, C.
