Inequality in the United States Summary The United States has its foundation mainly from conquest and subjugation of some groups of people. European conquerors invaded Indians who were the original ... inhabitants of the land. They later brought slaves to work on their farms. That means the history of the country started with some groups enjoying an upper status in the society than others. The social differences have matured as forms of economic, social, educational and political inequality. White males are at the top of the social hierarchy and can determine what happens to the others lower in the social order. Women and non-whites are at the bottom of the order and do not have the same opportunities as the male whites in the society. In many instances, the governments of the United States government rationalises social inequality by arguing that the groups are responsible for their subjugation. [Show More]
