Introduction
The literature review aims to focus on healthy newborns and early skin-to-skin contact of the baby with theie mother in the initial phase of life when compared with drying and wrapping and the influence on the neonatal period of breastfeeding (Neczypor Holley 2017). Literature has been continuously published, showing the positive outcomes of newborns who are placed right on the mother’s skin immediately post delivery during the first hour of life. As cited in Neczypor Holley (2017), Sharma, Sharma, & Shastri (2017) defines this critical period as the "golden hour" where newborns transition to extrauterine life. Skin to skin during the first hour of life is important as newborns organ systems go through a rapid adaptation to their new environment.

Study One
The purpose of the study was to implement the golden hour protocol and provide supporting evidence on how initiating skin-to-skin contact (STSC) in the first hour of life produces positive results, fewer stress levels in infant and mom, decrease increased risk on infant’s mortality rate, and an extended duration in breastfeeding time (Neczypor, & Holley, 2017). The process was initiated with an evaluation of hospital policy and revision of literature that supports creating the “Golden Hour” protocol that entails three important components (deferred cord clamping, instantaneous skin-to-skin contact, and initiation of early breastfeeding) (Neczypor, & Holley, 2017). The utilization of a qualitative approach was used by conducting a pilot program on the labor and delivery unit in the hospital to observe the nurse-patient reaction to the implementation of the protocol.
Even though the researcher was met with some challenges, this gives an opportunity to address the gaps that were faced throughout the process. The results revealed that there was some resistance to change through staff behaviors initially as it disrupts staff members daily routine and can place a limitation on the time in which care is provided (Neczypor, & Holley 2017) supports that early initiation of skin to skin contact (STSC) in the newborn in the initial phase of
