ADVANCED PHARMACOLOGY 2019 Case Study Patient HL comes into the clinic with the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The patient has a history of drug abuse and possible Hepatitis C... . HL is currently taking the following prescription drugs: Synthroid 100 mcg daily, Nifedipine 30 mg daily, and Prednisone 10 mg daily. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are common complaints in patients with various etiologies. Medication can be used to treat the symptoms, but the cause should be diagnosed. Without a complete history and physical a diagnosis is difficult. Possible causes can be ingestion of substances, GI, neurological or metabolic disease (Arcangelo, Peterson, Wilbur, & Reinhold, 2017). This patient has history of Hepatitis C which should be considered as part of the differential with possible hepatic involvement. Symptoms can be related to liver dysfunction. The history of drug abuse is also significant. Symptoms could be related to withdrawal (Jackson, Lonergan, Todd, & Marin, 2013). [Show More]
