Introduction
A hospital base setting in telemetry unit, the nurse-patient ratio is 1:5. In this setting, the nurse work along with the other health care professionals in order to provide quality care to patients. The staff in this unit divided the work based on the individual scope of practice. The staff share information and encourage each other to coordinate their work and provide better intervention to the patient. The interprofessional team includes the patient and family. In this unit, the patient and family be able to participate in the bedside report and patient-centered care planning. There is a huddle in each shift which helps in improving communication and collaboration between staff, reduces error, and increases the safety of patients. The team function that could be improved in this unit is the proper delegation of work, this can help nurses to reach to the desired goal and improve the care delivered to the patients. Staff education is another team function that might be improved. Staff education is important to improve cultural competence, team work skill, and patient safety. “Cultural competence education help to have understanding of respect and acceptance of cultural differences, and help to learn culturally specific
practices”( Jongen, C., McCalman, J., & Bainbridge, R., 2018). Teamwork and patient safety goes hand in hand. When teamwork skill improve, patient safety increased so as improve patient outcomes. Interprofessional team and patient outcomes can achieved through compassion, advocacy, resilience, and evidence-based practice.
