Introduction
The current case study focuses on a Puerto Rican Woman by the name Ms. Perez with
Comorbid Addiction. Ms. Perez is a 53-year-old Puerto Rican female with the chief complaint
that she is suffering from co-morbid addictions of alcoholism and gambling. The patient reported
that she had already sought treatment for alcoholism during the past. However, being that she is
living just next to casino and the area with a lot of alcohol, the treatment has not helped her as
she always find herself drinking alcohol and engaging in gambling frequently. According to Ms.
Perez, gambling has greatly affected her life including marriage. She has also went ahead to
borrow significant amount of dollars (50,000 dollars) from her retirement account. At the
present, Ms. Perez has symptoms of depression characterized with sad mood and lethargic
demeanor. Therefore, the central aim of this case study is to discuss the different treatment
options for Ms. Perez as a client with addiction problems. The case evaluates three decisions that
would be made when it comes to offering effective treatment for Ms. Perez while discussing
some of the ethical issues regarding the treatment of Ms. Perez as addicted client.
Decision #1
As presented in the case, Ms. Perez is a 53-year-old woman whose past life history
indicates that she suffered from alcohol abuse from her teenage years. Ms. Perez begun using
alcohol at a young age when her father died and since then, she continued to consume more and
more alcohol. In her 20’s she had Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and has attending intermittently
for the last 25 years. At the present, her addiction has got out of control because she is also
