Rasmussen Hospital Policy SWOT Analysis and Recommendations A year ago, Rasmussen Hospital implemented a policy to ensure that the insertion of a urethral catheter was properly completed. According ... to the policy, it was the responsibility of registered nurses to ensure that the completion of all urethral catheter insertions was done under sterile technique. Among the requirements of the policy was that each insertion was to be done in the presence of Registered Nurses. While one of them was to complete the insertion, the other one was to assist and observe to ensure that the sterile technique was not broken. Any breakage in the technique required that the first Registered Nurse immediately stopped the procedure to pave the way for their counterpart. Documentation in the Electronic Health Record would be the last part of the policy. However, regardless of the implementation of the policy, Rasmussen hospital is still experiencing difficulties in the minimization of the Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) rates. Worryingly the hospital is currently facing financial consequences as the rates of CAUTI keep increasing. Consequently, this paper reviews the policy using SWOT analysis, and from the analysis gives the appropriate recommendations for change.
