Professor and class, One reason for adhering to high standards of ethics is the non-maleficence principal that is part of our nursing oath. Scientific research results are a point of reference and are applied on the field to the patients that we care for. These results are considered the best practice and a progress in medicine. Lack of care in the application of scientific methods, false documentation or assumptions can lead to false results. Unethical or bias results validated as evidence-based practice can lead to wrong practices that can harm the population of interest. The dangers of conflict of interest are that we get involved and we don’t even notice. For example, you discover that a certain medicine can be used to treat another disease, at the beginning the welfare of the patients is your primary interest and makes it valid for your research but along the way you learn that if your hypothesis is right the company that distributes the medicine will benefit you with financial gain. At this point, your motivations start conflicting with your first interest and even without notice you can start wishfully looking for those positive responses affecting the rights and welfare of human subjects.
