Case Study Project Final Draf Health and Wealth Health and wealth have been a source of contention within America for a long period of time. In America, it is quite common for the very wealthy to ... have much better care than those living below the poverty level. Treatment of chronic diseases, medication availability, even access to rehabilitation facilities for those struggling with addiction are ways the link between social class and health care are shown. It is widely known that inpatient treatment centers for drug and alcohol addiction are costly (“Public Assistance Options for Drug & Alcohol Treatment Centers.” 2019). A struggling addict who lacks adequate healthcare or funds for treatment should not have less of a chance for recovery than a wealthy individual. The working poor should not have to choose between visiting a doctor for a potentially contagious illness and going to work. Low income mothers face many adversities with prenatal and postnatal care. Residents of lower income neighborhoods can face health disadvantages relating to diet and exercise. Health and wealth are linked together in a way that benefits those at the high end of the socioeconomic class and affects the working poor and low-income in a more negative way. As I have grown, I have seen and experienced the battle between health and wealth. I have experienced the frustration as a parent whose children who have gotten sick due to classmates attending school after their parents simply give Tylenol to bring their fevers down. Often times, these children are part of single parent households, and the parent has no option but to go to work or risk adverse consequences. The child is sent to school sick.
