If the mother tests positive for Hep B, the infant should receive the first Hep B vaccine as well as the Hep B immune globulin (HBIG) within the first 12 hours of birth (CDC, 2020). However, if the infant is less than 2,000 grams, three additional hep B doses should be administered beginning at 1 month of age (CDC, 2020).
