We will explore the causes of conflict, especially intractable ones, focusing on its political and emotional dynamics. We will also study the challenges and opportunities for conflict resolution and conflict transformation. We will focus on the role that international institutions, primarily the UN, play in negotiating solutions to conflict, and we will study the cases of successful negotiations. In addition to studying negotiations in the context of violent conflicts, we will also explore the dynamics of multilateral negotiations that aim at addressing other global problems.
