diabetes, the first thing is to ensure that the blood sugar level is regulated through taking
appropriate dietary control. Dietary regulation is the key to the proper management of sugar
levels in the body. According to Gattullo and Edelman (2009), “Diabetes is a disease that affects
the way that your body uses and breaks down food. Most of the food that you eat changes into
glucose or sugar, the sugar that is produced into energy” (Gattullo & Edelman, 2009). Insulin is
produced by the pancreas and, therefore, diabetes mainly affects this important organ. Insulin is
responsible for aiding glucose absorption into the body cells. Sugar is used for energy in the
body. Thus, diabetes should be managed properly since it means that your body does not have
the ability to produce enough insulin on its own. Notably, lack of insulin means that the blood
will have high levels of glucose, which is detrimental to the body.
The dietary intake to manage diabetes should include carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
The most effective way to reduce the glucose levels in the blood is to regulate the intake of
carbohydrates in order to limit the amount of simple sugars. The most recommended food
combination for diabetes should include plenty of vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and fruits.
Most importantly, lean and white meat is recommended for proteins. Ensure that you avoid junk
food, high fructose, sweetened snacks, and gluten. It is vital to also manage the administration of
medications. The insulin levels need to be closely monitored, understood, and recognizing the
distinctions between the various types of insulin and how they impact the glucose levels in the
body (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 2016). Physical
exercise is also recommended to foster a healthy lifestyle. It is essential to have a routine of
taking simple walks and non-sedentary activities in order to minimize the effects of the
condition. Lack of proper management of the blood sugar levels could easily lead to adverse
