PEST Analysis: SpaceX and the commercial space launch industry The PEST analysis, acronym for political, economic, social, and technology, creates a bird’s eye view of a company and the external f... actors that could create opportunities for growth or have adverse effects that hinder the advancement of the company. Given the evident unpredictability of the commercial space launch industry, SpaceX has obstacles that arise with every decision made. A proper PEST analysis will bring to light opportunities and threats that arise from their external environment, allowing a strategic plan to navigate through threats and utilize opportunities. Vying for government support has proven successful for SpaceX. Albeit, the political arena is as erratic as the commercial space launch industry. This is an incessant hurdle that must be approached delicately. The government has supported the industry, but with change in power and views with government leaders, that was not always the case.
