I. Abstract
The objective of this experiment is to implement a digital PID turntable speed control system that
satisfies given performance specifications. The PID controller is an industry standard controller due to its
simplicity and good performance. It is used to make certain measurable variables reach desirable values
by manipulating three terms; Proportional term, Integral term, and Derivative term. Proportional term is
the simple term proportional to the system error. Integral term is discovered later as a means of
eliminating bias offset. And derivative term is added at last as an anticipatory term based on the
derivative. [1] In reality, many electronic controllers are commonly digital PID controllers. The digital PID
controller is also called a discrete PID controller. It reads the error, calculates and outputs the control
input at a given time interval.[2] In this experiment, the digital PID controller was implemented using
LABVIEW software with a Data Acquisition (DAQ) interface. Tuning of the digital PID controller is
made by adjusting parameters, and the results obtained experimentally were compared to theoretical
results obtained using MATLAB and the experimental results from the previous laboratory investigation.
