Strategic planning is the process by which one develops a strategy to achieve certain purposes. (Stanley. C, 2012, p16) A successful strategy will lead a company achieve the objectives more easily and avoid many mistakes, and increase the company’s shareholder value and long -term profitability. Another purpose of use strategic plans is to develop a core competence and sustainable competitive advantages. Marketing offers many different strategic and tools to analysis a company’s market situation and factors, and the most companies are widely use SWOT and PEST analysis to identity the internal and external environment factors. Environmental analysis is a process through which the strategists study the environment of the firm and determine the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the firm. (Risk Management Agency,2008, p1-9) The purpose of this assignment is to identify how does corporations use the SWOT and PEST analysis to achieve their target objective in the market. And discuss the usefulness of those two strategic in Smartphone market. SWOT analysis SWOT analysis is a framework for assessing a firm’s resources and capabilities and external market situation. The first idea of this analysis method was development in the 1960s and get improvement from 1960 to 1970 by research team at Stanford Research Institute. (Christophe.S,2015) The SWOT analysis or SWOT method is an acronym of the terms Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. The aim of the SWOT analysis is to evaluate factors for decision-making and facilitate the development of strategic plans. (Christophe.S,2015) The reason for most companies widely used SWOT analysis because this method being easy use, and provides an excellent result for short-term strategic planning. Firstly, Strengths are elements link to the internal positive factors of an organization; strengths have positively influence on company strategic development and assist create competitive advantages. It usually defined as unique advantage for an organization that competitions don’t have. (Anja.B, 2009) The SWOT analysis identifies the competitive advantages held by a company over its competitors. When considering the strengths, it must be useful and positive influence to help financial situation of the organization. For example, Apple have strong advertising capabilities and brand awareness, those positively influence create stronger demand to their customer and Apple saved a lot money on advertising.
