Pre-Lab Questions:
“1. Identify the major similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic
cells. “
similarities they both have is that they both have plasma membrane, cytoplasm, and
ribosomes and also DNA.
“2. Where is the DNA housed in a prokaryotic cell? Where is it housed in a eukaryotic
cell? “
Prokaryotic cell has the neucleoid and that is where the DNA is located. In the
eukaryotic cell the DNA is located in the nucleus.
“3. Name three structures which provide support and protection in a eukaryotic cell.
“
the Cell wall, the plasma membrane and the peroxisomes.
Experiment 1: Cell Structure and Function
Post-Lab Questions
“1. Label each of the arrows in the following slide images: “
A- anaphase
B- prophase
Onion root tip, 1000x.
“2. What is the difference between the rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum? A
difference they have is one contains ribosomes.
“3. Would an animal cell be able to survive without a mitochondria? Why or why not?
“
The main job of the mitochondria is to perform cell respiration , in this case if an
animal cell doesn't have mitochondria it wouldn't be able to convert nutrients to
energy and survive.
“4. What is the function of a lysosome? “
Lysosome digest excess of organelles and food particles. The lysosome have
organellesd that contain digestive system.
Experiment 2: Exploring Cell Size
Record the cell radius and time to center of the cell in Table 2. Then, calculate the
surface area, volume, and surface area:volume ratio (equations provided below).
