TINA IHUMAN CASE STUDY 17 YEAR OLD _ HEARING VOICES LATEST SOLUTION 2023 Case Study of Tina Tina is a 17-year-old female. She comes from the Navajo Indian culture. She has strong values and... beliefs related to her culture that others may seem odd to a major part of the population in the United States. Tina and her mother went and seen a therapist due to Tina hearing voices that Tina believes her boyfriend is using witchcraft to control her and that is making her heard the voices. Tina openly admitted she has been using drugs (methamphetamines) for the past several months. In the case of Tina, it would be very beneficial for the therapist to gain more knowledge about Tina’s spiritual beliefs and her culture. The Navajo culture and traditions were much geared towards their family life. The Navajo culture is big into ceremonies and rituals. Their performances are usually four days, two days, or one day. The Navajo are known for their woven rugs and blankets. They first learned to weave cotton from the Pueblo peoples. When they started to raise sheep, they switched to wool. These blankets were valuable and only the wealthy leaders could afford them. As a counselor understanding and becoming more aware of Tina’s cultural background will be extremely helpful in Tina’s treatment process. The simple fact that Tina and her mother mentioned a medicine man was a lucky break for the counselor. The Navajo almost never speak of their beliefs in witchcraft with the white man and seldom mention the beliefs outside of their own camp even with other Indian folks. Individuals that inquire about the Navajo spirituality are considered suspicious. It is clear that Tina has a dual diagnosis. The information provided was vague. The therapist needs to obtain more information from Tina and Tina’s mother to determine a proper diagnosis. Substance-induced Psychotic Disorder would be the first disorder that is distinguished in Tina’s case.
