Business Management > DISCUSSION POST > SBE 330 Week 1 Course Project: Product or Service Idea (All)
I have thought about this for a long time. What product or service could I create that I feel is needed/wanted by the consumer today? Do I have experience in any areas where I see gaps in marketplaces ... ? Would I enjoy any new products or services? After asking myself these questions, the answer hit me. The new product or service I want to create is combination of a modern day barbershop, blended within a tattoo shop. I will call it, “The Establishment: Tattoos & Hairdo’s for the gentlemen lifestyle”. There are certain lifestyles, and fashions for men which are consistent, and rarely change over the years. For example; men who ride Harley Davidson motorcycles consistently like long, or greaser style haircuts which are cut at barbershops. They like long beards, mustaches, and facial hair, which are trimmed at barbershops. Most of all; they like tattoos, and motorcycles. The general public calls men associated with the fashion lifestyle described above simply as; Bikers. I know all the fashion lifestyle choices described above, because I myself am a biker, so I understand what the consumer wants in this area. As a result, I feel safe in this venture because I met the need of all the questions I previously described asking myself above. I am filling the want of the Biker lifestyle by blending two areas into one cool innovative place. This means little to no competition. I have experience in this lifestyle, so I know what the target consumer wants, and what is convenient for their needs as well. I would enjoy a place that I can go to get a haircut I want, and a tattoo in one place. A place I can enjoy my time spent by talking motorcycles, tattoos, and other similar lifestyle interest with others like me. A place designed to cater towards a lifestyle that has been around since the 1940’s and shows no signs of disappearing, only evolving with the times. This is the innovative idea, and business venture I will explore. We will start with just haircuts and tattoos, in a cool biker retro atmosphere. When the business begins to get traction, I will add more innovative ideas that appeal to this target consumer as well. Such as a bar that serves beer on tap, and a motorcycle mechanic shop in back. Eventually, a customer can come into “The Establishment” and get his motorcycle worked on while he enjoys a beer on tap, gets a tattoo, or gets a trim. All in all, this will eventually be the one stop shop for any customer engulfed into the biker gentlemen lifestyle. References Patagonia Staff. (2016). Culture/Life, Patagonia.com, Web.
