The purpose of this paper is to examine the clinical manifestations, potential health risk with bariatric surgery for obese patients, assess for potential functional health pattern problems, discuss end-stage renal disease (ESRD) staging and the contributing factors, ESRD prevention and health promotion opportunities, and resources that are available for ESRD patients. Clinical Manifestations. Mr. C. is a 32-year-old obese single male that is requesting information for bariatric surgery. He reports that he has been overweight since childhood and has “gained 100 pounds over the past 2-3 years.” Complaints of dyspnea on exertion, pruritus, and peripheral edema over the past six months.
