Document Content and Description Below

MRS J CASE STUDY;NRS 410V Clinical Manifestations Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) is the rapid onset of signs and symptoms of heart failure (Teerlink, Alburikan, Metra & Rodgers, 2015, p. ... 53). ADHF is identified by the development of dyspnea due to the accumulation of fluids within the tissues which leads to increased filling pressures within the heart. With this in mind, Mrs. J’s complaints of anxiety, feeling like she cannot get enough air and her heart feeling like it’s “running away” are all valid and are common symptoms of this disease process. While the majority of people with this condition experience congestion, Teerlink et al., (2015) explain that some patients can exhibit symptoms of low cardiac output and hypoperfusion with and without congestion (p. 53). Furthermore, some other common symptoms can be dyspnea, orthopnea, chest pressure, and nocturnal cough that can be symptoms of volume overload (Teerlink et al., 2015, p. 53). Anxiety can have a negative impact on breathing which leads to chest pain and worsen the symptoms of heart failure. With this anxiety, Mrs. J. is worsening her breathing which is why she states that she "cannot get enough air". Other symptoms experienced by Mrs. J. are fatigue, malaise, nausea, and exhaustion. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD as defined by Mikael Andersson (2015), Department of Neuroscience, Physiotherapy, Caroline Stridsman, c Department of Health Sciences, Lulea˚ University of Technology, Eva Ro¨nmark, Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, Anne Lindberg, e Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, Division of Medicine, Margareta Emtner, Department of Neuroscience, Physiotherapy is a progressive, non-reversible airflow limitation (p. 1049). With this in mind, fatigue is a symptom that those with COPD often experience and is a "subjective, unpleasant symptom which incorporates total body feelings ranging from tiredness to exhaustion creating an unrelenting overall condition which interferes with individuals’ ability to function to their normal capacity” (Andersson et al, 2015, p. 1049). .....Continued [Show More]
