The paper will discuss the critical challenge of maintaining and reinforcing the relationship between government, military, and people as outlined in Clausewitz’s “holy trinity.” Civilian contro... l has been the main obstacle in control of military and warfare operations. The armed forces should be less involved in internal matters which make the entity more prone to political control. The paper will also discuss the key features of the emerging global security environment of the 21st century. In the United States, the main emerging global security feature is the shifting power balances. Clausewitz’s “holy trinity” discusses the relationship between the government, armed forces and people in the control of warfare in a country. According to Larson (2014), the trinity discusses the limits, political control and guidance of war by the three essential entities. Originally, the three bodies worked in collaboration to control the United States military actions. The people are termed as the irrational characters who possess mixed emotions such as primordial violence, hatred, and hostility (Larson, 2014).
