Critical Analysis of an Applied Research Report Theoretical Fundamentals Despite some formatting and typing errors, it is an interesting study that focuses on special education. Children with speci... al needs require special treatment and need qualified professionals to adopt varied strategies to improve learning. A research project usually addresses a specific topic or aspect and then connects it to an established theory or set of theories. The research papers also incorporate some scholarly or peer-reviewed articles that make the basis of theory used. The theoretical framework describes the theory that explains why the research problem exists (The University of Southern California, 2021). In this research, Everhart (2004) focuses on using visual instructions in educating children with verbal and hearing disabilities. One of the author’s theoretical fundamentals is about the use of the ‘multisensory approach.’ This enables students to use more than one sense in learning such as kinesthetic, visual, and auditory methods (Everhardt, 2004, p.1). Various studies show that low academic students tend to perform better when multisensory activities are used especially in English lessons (Yanilis, 2020). The report presents a detailed literature review relevant to the topic. For example, the pendulum swing approach in reading encourages using a variety of reading methods for each student. The author also seems interested in teaching sight words using sign language.
