1. How does Healthy People 2020 define health disparities?
Healthy People defines health disparities as a difference in well-being that is linked to social and
economic status, as well as a environmental disadvantage. They go in depth to explain that
based on ones ethnic/racial group or socioeconomic status, is what affects their health.
2. How would Healthy People 2020 assess Health disparities in the US population?
In the future they could assess health disparities in the U.S hy tracking rates of
disease, death, and other behaviors sorted by race, gender, and location.

1. How do you define low Health literacy?
I would simply describe it as, being aware of what it takes to be healthy and working
towards new goals with your health everyday.
2. Who has low health literacy?
Those with low socioeconomic status, elderly people, and those who are non-native
English speakers.
3. Who is affected by the consequences of low health literacy?
The people affected by not being health aware are in the individuals themselves, their
families and the community struggling to maintain healthy behaviors. Insurance
companies and tax payers are also affected by this.
4. What is impact of low health Literacy?
The impacts that caused such a large population not health aware can come from
medication errors, longer hospital stays, and increased costs.
5. How can we address low health literacy?
Simple ways we can address more of the population can be blowing up social media and
posters on the streets with basic health information and tips, plain words so anyone can
understand the message. Another way could be enforcing it to be taught in schools,
especially in the younger grades.
6. How can we identify low health literacy? What should we consider?
Those in health care can help identify who has low health literacy by paying attention to
who misses appointments, unable to understand their medication, not knowing their
medical history and more.
