Materials Distilled water Plastic cups Vinegar Rubbing alcohol Coffee Used cooking oil/ grease Juice Dishwashing liquid Experimental Procedure 1. Using different colored Sharpies, draw three or more concentric circles in the center of each of the three coffee filters or used tea bags. 2. Fold the coffee filters or used tea bags half twice, creating a triangle shape with the circles showing at the point. 3. Fill the three small cups with three different solvents: Cup A – distilled water Cup B = vinegar Cup C = rubbing alcohol 4. Gently place a folded coffee filter in each cup and observe any changes for about 10-15 minutes 5. This time, do steps 1 to 4 but warm your solvents. 6. Observe any changes for about 10-15 minutes. 7. This time, do the procedure by adding a diluted dishwashing liquid to all cups.
