Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ,
and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture
references, focusing especially on restoration scriptures (Book of Mormon, Doctrine &
Covenants, Pearl of Great Price). In 200-300 words, write a response that addresses the
following questions about the key events and scriptures you have been studying:
1. List at least three scriptures or events you found this week that help you understand
need for a restoration. Explain why each helps us understand and share the doctrines in
the Articles of Faith.
List your word count at the end of your response
Response:
1. Amos 8:11-12 – Here we understand the importance of a prophet and what he is meant to do. This is the
reason why Joseph Smith was called. He needs a prophet is lead his people and church. Therefore, he was
called prior to the restoration of the church.
2. 2 Peter 2:1-3 – False Prophets leading people astray. These are the tares that we read about in D&C 86. We
understand that they will pretend to do good but are just evil doers. Because of the false prophets that were
around in Joseph Smiths day we needed a prophet to come and to show us the truth. That was the key to the
restoration.
3. D & C 86:1-3 – Here we understand that the Lord had the twelve apostles go and plant seeds and build the
church. While they were going about busy with other work the apostasy slowly crept in and they were killed.
While they were gone there has been many false teachings that have spread and now there is much
confusion. Here we can only tell the difference between the wheat and tares by the fruit they produce. We
can also tell the difference between the church of the devil and the Christ’s church by the teachings they
have. Therefore, the restoration was important, to restore the true teachings of Jesus Christ in clarity
