Adaptive Responses to Illness The body has a multitude of adaptive responses against pathogens to prevent invasion into the body. These defenses include an external barrier (skin), an internal barri ... er (inflammation), and an immune defense which is comprised of signal cells that respond with specific lymphocytes, leukocytes, and immunoglobulins. In the event that a pathogen does get into the body, an immune response is triggered in which the body will initiate a cascade of adaptive responses which compensates for the deviation from the body's natural homeostasis.
