CLEAN AIR ACT 2 Abstract The quality of the air that we breathe is protected by one of many environmental laws. This particular law is rightfully named the Clean Air Act, and is responsible for the ... reduction of pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide and lead and fine particulates. The Clean Air Act broadly defines many main points such as “Air pollutant” and “Welfare”. The term Air Pollutant refers to any air pollutant agent or combination of agents; this includes any physical, chemical, radioactive or biological substance that enters the air. Whereas “Welfare” is described as the pollutants effects on the weather or climate (Massachusetts v. EPA. 2007). The Clean Air Act was originally signed into law in December of 1970 and was actually an update to the Air Quality Act of 1963. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was also created in 1970; they were charged with the responsibility of carrying out the law.
