Report for Experiment #14 Standing Waves Ahmed Benhafoune Lab Partners: Lianna Xu TA: Alex Bellas November 24, 2020 Abstract This experiment focused on studying standing waves of a string and i ... n an air column, measure sound velocity, and determine and examine the relationship between the tension applied on a string and the velocity of the wave. In the first investigation, the tension and velocity of a string were calculated and plotted against each other to calculate the mass unit per length. In the second investigation, the wavelength and inverse frequency of standing waves within an air column were calculated and plotted against each other. The slope that was calculated was then compared to the given slope for the velocity of the sound in order to determine accuracy. The values calculated during the first investigation were found to be highly inaccurate while the values calculated in the second investigation were found to be accurate within error [Show More]
