(Attention getter): My high school graduation was about 4 months ago. 10... minutes before our high school graduation, my best friend came to me and ask: “Khanh, can you tie my tie please? I’m having a nightmare with this tie.” That was the only time I heard my friends could not do some simple and basic things that we were all supposed to know. II. (Direct audience to need): Having important and necessary life skills is very important to us – since those skills play an important role in achieving success later in our lives. III.(Credibility Statement): Because I lived mostly on my own, I educated myself the most necessary life skills to “survive”. IV. (Preview of main points – Central Idea): In my speech, I’m going to discuss about the problems when schools don’t offer life skills courses, what we should do about it and how we should do it. Connective (Signpost): First, let’s look at the why most of the students aren’t taught the skills that will be necessary for their lives afterwards. BODY I. State the NEED : Life skills do matter, but why don’t school offer any classes teaching about these skills? A. What are some problems? There is a big gap between students acquire in the classroom and the demands/skills needed outside the classroom. i. Most classes teach us how to memorize things, but not how to handle stress and how to negotiate with people. ii. In a recent survey of UK, done by the research company YouGov, fewer than one in five employers thought that all or most graduates were “workready”. The overwhelming majority of companies said that graduates lacked key employability, such as teamwork skills and the ability to cope under pressure. B.
