There have been many different texts that have had an impact on me this semester. The
ones that I chose specifically were Thomas Hobbes, and Rene Descartes. I chose these because
they hall have some sort of common grace to them. They all have some truth that really stuck out
to me. Although there were some things that I might not have agreed with, there was one thing in
common with all of them. They all had a common grace insight to them. They were both
challenging to my conceptual framework.
I chose Thomas Hobbes as one of my texts because I believe that he hits really hard on
the concept of common grace that we learned in the first lecture. Common grace is God’s grace
that is common to all man enabling them to refrain from sin and express truth. And common
grace insight is the observation that one observes that reflects truth. Hobbes’ insight in Leviathan
is just the sheer evil of man and the wretchedness of the human condition. After reading and
studying this piece from Hobbes I sat back and just saw how much truth it all had to it. Just with
what has been recently going on in the country with the whole Ferguson shooting and more
recently the New York City vice officer putting a man into a chokehold and all the protests that
