What was the HealthIT Hot Topic you selected related to your specialty? Why did you select it? How will this impact your practice? HealthIT Hot Topic: Digital Health Technology FierceHealthcare is ... a newsletter publication that illustrates the latest trends in information technology, healthcare, and the payer. We were tasked to look through the hot topics of information technology and choose a topic that relates and will or has impacted our specialty. FierceHealthcare has many hot topics to choose from. The subcategories include analytics, electronic health records, mobile, privacy and security, and regulatory. After reading through numerous titles and corresponding articles I was able to find three topics that truly related to my Emergency Department (ED) specialty: telehealth, alarm fatigue, and digital health technology (DHT). I chose DHT as my HealthIT Hot topic. DHT is the use of modern day technology (i.e. smart phones, internet applications, etc.) to manage and track personal health information, wellness activities, and improve the delivery of acute and preventative care (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2016). I have witnessed the impact of DHT in my specialty.
