Comparison and contrast the characters of Twyla and Robertson in Recitatif by Toni Morrison Introduction The short story Recitatif was written by Toni Morrison and it tells the story of two centra l c... haracters Twyla and Robertson . The title of the story is derived from a word that means repetitive or recitation. There are key differences and similarities between the story of Twyla and Robertson which the author use to bring out the central themes of Recitatif. To understand these differences between Twyla and Robertson is necessary to use some criteria such as their psychological development and the roles that both play in each other lives to bring out the themes of the story. Discussion One of the key similarities between both Twyla and Robertson is that they are both brought up in an orphanage. For Twyla Benson one of the main characters in the narrative her mother was an irresponsible party animal who as unable to take care of her daughter which meant that Twyla had to grow up in a children orphanage. Even though Robertson also grew up in an orphanage, her case is quite different from that of Twyla. For Robertson, her mother was too sick to take care of her as a child and as such, she had to be given off to the children orphanage.
