*NURSING > CASE STUDY > I-Human Simulation—Otto Smithers (All)
Debriefing: 1. 3 priority concepts and how they interrelate: a. Thermoregulation: When the body’s homeostasis is compromised and there are an infection the immune system steps in and tries to re-... regulate the system. b. Comfort: This is the body's physical, social, and mental well-being. Mr. Smithers pain level has been fluctuating between 5 and 7 out of 10 as well as the abdominal cramping. By addressing this after every intervention and every shift Mr. Smithers can be more comfortable and begin to heal quicker. c. Gastrointestinal: This system is the main place for nutrient absorption, waste removal, and detoxification of things that are ingested. 2. 2 takeaways from the simulation: a. That there are times that Diverticulitis can go undiagnosed due to being asymptomatic. That is until symptoms get so severe or complications arise. b. Even though Diverticulitis is treated does not mean that it will not reoccur. As a matter of fact, it has a high reoccurrence rate unless behavioral changes take place. 3. Information that would have been helpful before completing the simulation: a. I feel that even though I went back and read the material for Diverticulitis and the article provided it just was not enough information about the disease. It also would have been helpful to maybe compare Diverticulitis to a GI bleed or Colon Cancer in general. 4. It surprised me that it was Diverticulitis and not a GI bleed or colon cancer. He had all the symptoms and risk factors of colon cancer, but it ended up just being multiple diverticula and some fat within the colon. [Show More]
