This course focuses on therapeutic and restorative care of a client’s holistic balance of health within the wellness continuum. Students will study the care of the adult and older client with alter... ations in the health status of the nervous, genitourinary, reproductive, immune and sensory systems. Each system will be explored in relation to anatomy and physiology, diet therapy, pharmacology, disease process, and the nursing process. This course also addresses disaster planning and the emergency response. Students will apply theoretical knowledge, which they learned in Clinical VI. Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes After satisfactorily completing this course, students will be able to: ― Interpret changes in the anatomy and physiology of the nervous, genitourinary, reproductive, immune, and sensory systems for the adult and older adult. ― Anticipate diagnostic procedures and tests associated with each disease process. ― Summarize appropriate components of medical treatments for each disease process. ― Plan dietary regimens for disorders in a culturally diverse population for the adult and older adult ― Integrate the pharmacological treatment of nervous, genitourinary, reproductive, immune, and sensory disorders for the adult and older adult. ― Recommend nursing management of disorders focusing on restoring the client to optimal functional level. ― Outline safety measures required for administering medications. ― Identify community resources available to clients and their families. ― Design an individualized theoretical nursing care plan for a client with a specific nervous, genitourinary, reproductive, immune or special senses disorder. ― Identify data to contribute to the assessment of clients with disorders of the nervous, reproductive, immune, and sensory systems. ― Examine the role of the LPN in Emergency Preparedness and the Emergency Response ― Identify types of Emergencies and regional differences in planning individual and community needs.
