“Information Technology (IT) refers to the products, methods, inventions, and standards that
are used for the purpose of producing information. (IT) pertains to the hardware, software, and
data components. In contract, an information system (IS) is an assembly of hardware,
software, data, procedures, and people that produces the information” (Kroenke, 2015, p. 15).
The importance of recognizing the difference is that it can avoid you form making common
mistakes that people make. A quick way to remember the differences between Information
technology and Information system, is that “you can buy IT, but you can never by an IS”
(Kroenke, 2015, p. 16). While information technology is just that the technology used to run a
program, or a business or to use social media. With information technology just as information
system employees need to be taught on how to use them and how they operate. Information
systems is the programs used. Companies have to ensure that employees know how to use
these systems by implementing training and sometimes monitoring what employees do. One
example of this is the use of Facebook and Twitter, employers need to ensure that employees
are following rules and not posting anything online that may misrepresent the company
