It is easy to see how persona came to refer to outward appearance, the public face we display to the people around us (Schultz, 2005). WHAT IS PERSONALITY? Personality can be defined as a pattern of relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to human behavior. PSYCHOLOGY OF SCIENCE It studies both science and the behavior of scientists; that is, it investigates the impact of an individual scientist’s psychological processes and personal characteristics on the development of her or his scientific theories and research (Feist & Feist, 2009). ITS IMPORTANCE The study of human personality helps us understand ourselves and other people better, and gives us a greater appreciation for the complexity of the human experience and being able to understand the behavior of others gives us a greater sense of control over our lives and makes the world more predictable and less threatening THE SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF PERSONALITY Scientific approach is the most effective way to gather accurate information about personality functioning. A theory is a set of related assumptions that allow scientists to use logical deductive reasoning to formulate testable hypotheses.
