This class is the first part of two classes on maintaining sterile technique when changing a dressing. Overall Course Objective(s): At the end of this class newly hired ICU nurses will be able to change a triple lumen catheter dressing while maintain sterile technique and understand why sterile process is important. A lecture with a power-point presentation will help students to differentiate all of the different reasons why it is so important to change a triple lumen catheter. Have the students identify on pictures what dressings need to be changed. Locate standards of practice for triple lumen catheters. Have the students take a verbal quiz stating the reasons that a triple lumen catheter should be changed. Have the students play a true or false game stating what sterile technique is will be able to understand and maintain sterile technique. 2. The power-point presentation will allow the students to follow along and the hands-on portion will get them up and be able to hold a catheter in their hands. Allows to see were placement of a catheter should be at and what will happen if the catheter is cut. Have students read about what happens when there is a complication with changing a dressing on a triple lumen catheter from a nursing journal. (Caple,2018). Review article about central venous catheter care. (Schub,2018). Have a classroom decision on the complications and go around the room and have every student give and answer.
