Set 2 - I chose to major in AE because space has always been something I liked, but for most of my life, this was just a side interest. I grew up in Delray Beach, FL, and from the bridge next to my house, my dad and I would watch the Space Shuttle’s orange path in the night sky. I loved learning about stars and fell even more in love with the ideas of legacy and exploration. Then I read The Martian the year it was published and I knew—this was what I wanted to do (not botany, obviously, but going to Mars). I immediately read former astronaut Mike Massimino’s Spaceman, and I formed a plan.
