The agent must ... be specifically directed by the prescriber and must be either: An employee under the prescriber's immediate and personal supervision or An individual holding a valid license allowing administration or dispensing of drugs Can a written prescription for SII drugs be faxed? - ✔✔Only for informational purposes. A faxed prescription does NOT count as the original written prescription However there are exceptions: An order for SII drugs for nursing home or home infusion patients may be faxed SII prescriptions for hospice patients may be faxed if the prescriber notes on the prescription that the patient is a hospice patient These prescriptions must meet the same requirements as written prescriptions, including signature Can the prescriber decide where to fax the prescription? - ✔✔The prescription has to be faxed to the pharmacy of the patient's choice Where does a faxed prescription need to come from? - ✔✔The prescriber's practice location A long term care facility or hospice Can an oral prescription be faxed? - ✔✔Yes , an oral prescription can be faxed.
