What type of technology (technologies) does your pharmacy utilize? Fax machines, computers, and telephones. The pharmacy at Warm Springs San Antonio is staffed daily with a pharmacist and pharmacy ... technician. The facility pharmacist, Mr. Allen Puttman, was interviewed. The pharmacy utilizes multiple technologies in their process. Med Select is used in the dispensing and tracking of medications. This system is used in order to improve medication compliance, accountability, and help prevent diversion. Along with Med Select, the health management system (HMS) order entry system is used. HMS is used to help optimize therapies, prevent duplication of therapy, and check for drug interactions. Also used is the medication order management system (MOMS), an order scanning system. This scanning system helps expedite pharmacy order entry which is instrumental in accuracy and avoiding any delays in treatment. The system used in this hospital is Cerner, and it’s basically an electronic medical record (EMR) system. This system documents several things, such as physician orders, patient profiles, verification, patient education, etc. Also, the pharmacy can scan certain orders, which allows them to be a paperless system. Paperwork can get lost or damaged, so one of the best things about the system is that you can see everything in front of you on the computer screen.
