Hollywood Produces Stereotypical Representations Michael Omi, an American professor, and sociologist is best known for developing the racial formation theory alongside Howard Winant. His revolutiona... ry work was essential as it played a fundamental role in transforming completely how we understand historical and social forces that offer to race its varying meaning over place and time. Omi’s article “In Living Color: Race and American Culture purports that pop culture is indeed powerful to how we view not only stereotypes but also several races. His main idea is that Hollywood relies on inferential racism which is more spread, shared, and actually treacherous because “it is largely invisible even to those who formulate the world in terms (Omi 627). Mitu Sengupta, a professor in the department of political science at Ryerson University authored the article, “Race Relations Light Years From Earth.” Sengupta is recognized as a great lecturer who argues in the abovementioned article that films such as Avatar fortify malevolent stereotypes of the tribal using the “White Messiah.” The stereotypes are reinforced as meek, stupid, and disorderly only to destabilize the hard-won voice of sidelined folks of color and validate their continued marginalization. I totally agree with the claim that Hollywood produces stereotypes, particularly through their movies.
