1. How has Hanna Andersson applied values-based leadership in terms of the company’s
choices related to P-O-L-C?
Planning: Hanna Andersson has created a successful plan to serve the customer’s
demand. It started from the small family business selling Swedish clothing to the
corporation with new capital and leadership. The company has many charities
programs to schools and non-profit group which benefits women and children.
The company also satisfied the demand of customers as well as the investors for
the growth of company.
Organizing: Hanna Andersson developed from the small family business to the
corporation with over 400 employees and 37 retail stores worldwide. The
company currently distributes the products online besides selling its products at
the stores. The company also changes ownership several times.
Leading: The trust in the organization is built by ethical leaders. The founder’s
Denharts run the company from 1983 to 1995, then Phil losca CEO (1995-2010)
and currently the CEO Adam Stone. The case also indicates that the employees
are friends and family members of the Denharts. The company focuses on
contributing the community.
Controlling: The company currently has over $100 million in annual sales and
more than 400 employees and 37 retail stores worldwide. The company wholesale
is expected to increase yearly revenue by 5%.

2. How did company leaders like losca, Petersen, and Stone help facilitate change within the
company? Did they remain consistent with the values of the founders?
Due to the increased completion from other retailers and the introduction of
online commerce, the Denharts has realized the need for help and direction.
In 1995, Phil Iosca led Hana Andersson as CEO, and then sold it to a private
equity firm in 2001. Gun remained as chair of the Hanna Andersson Children's
Foundation (2001-2006) and on the board of directors until 2007. Under Iosca’s
leadership, the company opened several retail stores throughout the country in
2002 and established online commerce.
The COO Adam Stone led the company as CEO after Iosca retired in early 2010.
He has helped the employees make better and more strategic decisions.

3. What were the reasons for organizational change within Hanna Anderssen, both internally
and externally?
The reason for organizational change within Hanna Anderssen is Phil losca took the
strategic lead as CEO in 1995, and then the company was purchased by a private firm in
2001. Besides, under Iosca’s leadership, the company also operated several retail stores
and established online commerce. Thus, it needed to overcome hard economic time to
initiate a merchandise wholesale to Nordstrom and Costco. Furthermore, retail expansion
required the greatest shift from both technical systems to inventory planning and buying
to distribution to organizational communication and human resources process.

The next generation of leaders is the big challenge
Family issues such as ages, health problems and perhaps pass away can have
negative effects for running the company.

The mission of Hanna Andersson has evolved overtime. In the early 1980s, it began from
an exclusive mail-order catalog; today Hanna Andersson also distributes products online
in 37 retail stores across the world. More important, the company currently boasts over
$100 million in annual sales and more than 400 employees. It also means Hanna’s
mission will be continuing to develop to bring uniquely styled, long lasting and
comfortable clothing and quality European-style children’s clothing to the United States.
