Lab 6 – An Unknown Binary Mixture Introduction: In this lab, an unknown binary mixture was obtained with the ultimate goal of identifying the two compounds in the mixture. In order to do this, th ... e compounds were separated, purified, and analyzed with the use of classification tests, melting points, solubility tests, IR synthesis, NMR synthesis, and derivative reactions. Unknown #121 was analyzed, which was composed of two unknown solid compounds: a brown solid and a white solid. An acid-base extraction was used to separate the compounds.
