Engineering > Lab Report > Report for Lab # 4 Wind Turbine Project | Download for quality grades | (All)
The wind turbine project was a multi-phase development over the span of four lab days for the design and construction of both a wind turbine blade and its supporting structure. The turbine that ... we designed was not able to meet the minimum of the two-watt power output requirement. The maximum power that we were able to obtain for our wind turbine was 1.55 watts. The power output that we obtained was only 17.1% of the theoretical power output of 9.044 watts. We speculate that the wind turbine was unable to extract as much of the kinetic energy from the wind due to a small angle of attack of the turbine blades. However, the performance of the wind turbine structure in regards to structural stiffness went very well, giving a stiffness value 63.306 N/mm. Additionally, the height of the supporting structure was 17 inches tall and weighed 197 grams. This stiffness to weight ratio of our supporting structure was 321 (N/mm)/Kg. Figure 1 below shows the completed project with the wind turbine connected to the supporting structure. [Show More]
