Although benchmarking is a useful method in safety training, some obstacles migh ... t hinder its success. One of the most common barriers to an effective benchmarking of safety training is the poor quality of data that organizations can collect (Haight, 2012). Some companies in the industry are unwilling to share sensitive information regarding the reporting of workrelated incidents as well as accidents. Hence, the company undertaking to benchmark will not obtain quality and useful data. Another factor that might act as a barrier to successful benchmarking is being insensitive to other companies. Some organizations want others participating in the benchmarking process to observe some protocols (Haight, 2012).
