HIST 405N Week 8 Assignment: Journal Entry – Reflection - Download To Score An A+ Identify and elaborate on one or two lessons you have learned from our study of United States history that... affect you today in your daily life and/or work. One of the most relevant topics of our history that I feel effects my life today would be the civil rights movement, the civil war, and the different terrorist attacks. The civil rights movement has affected the outcome of opportunities for African American individuals involving their rights, equalities, and injustices. The wars such as the civil war led to the civil rights of all individuals and changed the structure of the U.S. The terrorist attacks such as those of 911 and multiple school shootings make us more aware and ready to handle horrific tragedies more specifically in preventive measures and health care. Provide advice to the next group of students who will be taking this course. My advice to the next group of students is to manage your time wisely, though this course is very informative and interesting, this course requires a lot of reading and research. I also recommend that the student reads ahead of time because some topics may require the student to re-read information to completely comprehend the material. How has this course affected you today in your daily life and/or work? This course has allowed me to gain a better understanding of American history and culture. I understand why our societies, cultures, traditions, and religions are the way they are. I recently had the opportunity to go to New Orleans and I was excited to tie the history learned in this course with the actual city. The textbook created details that were an accurate and realistic depiction of this city; it was amazing to see it in person. What should incoming students be aware of regarding this class? Incoming students should be aware that this course will consist of at least two papers a week, one more like a short, detailed essay, which will be graded as a discussion post. The discussion post also requires students to post a response to at least one classmate, discussions must be constructed in a way that adds details or further explains what the student was discussing. What strategies did you use that they may find useful? The strategy I found most helpful included to read and then re-read the chapters to ensure I was understanding what I was reading. I also used outside sources such as eBooks, videos, scholarly literature, blogs, YouTube, and websites such as the history channel. For the subjects I had a hard time comprehending I even used websites like pbs that provided information in a kid friendly way. I found the more resources I used the more information I learned about the assigned topic. What advice can you provide to help them earn an A? Once again, I suggest managing your time wisely! This course will require students to research several topics related to U.S History, it will require the student to write a least two papers a week and each paper will require multiple sources to support claims made in the paper. One thing that I wish I had done was reach out to the instructor when I felt like I was struggling. Do not be afraid to reach out or ask questions, this could ultimately help your success in the class. Lastly do your bed. If you set an intention at the beginning of the assignment to do your best the actions should follow. [Show More]
