Unit 20-Biomedical Science Learning Aim B- Medical applications of histology and cytology P4 Screening is known to be a process to identiy an unrecognized diseas which is trigging the person healh... . This is done by carrying different type of tests[ CITATION Org191 \l 2057 ]. The main purpose of carrying screenings is to identify the diseases at their early stages or find the chance of getting the disease. Also, screening helps to save lives as it can detect the disease at early stages and so this can be treated. Therefore it increase the survival chance for the patient. - Another purpose is to improve the quality of life of the patient life through early identification. - Screening reduces the chance of developing any halting diseases from progressing by aiding the patient into making life changes. - By detecting the disease at its early stages it saves the NHS money from treating complicated stages. - Screening helps to detect and might eliminate the disease[ CITATION Scr18 \l 2057 ]. The different type of screening I chose to talk about are the following: - Cervical screening - Bowel cancer screening - Infectious disease screening What are they? Cervical Screening= This screening is practised only in womens and females between the age 25 and 64. This is a screening to find an abnormal change into the cervix. This is carried through a smear test which small samples of cell into the opening to the womb of the female from the vagina. Thi sis done to monitor or treat the disease at early stages which will prevent this from turning into cervical cancer[ CITATION NHS19 \l 2057 ]. Bowel cancer screening= This screening is made to detect bowel camver at early stages. This is done test not only for the bowel cancer, but also for polyps which are non cancerous growths. However, this has a chance to develop into cancer and is usually removed to lower the risk of bowel cancer. Bowel cancer screening are taken from any gender of age between 50 to 75. Within this range the screening is taken every 2 years. Infectious disease screening= This screening is commony taken from womens who are pregnant. This is done since the mother and the baby could be affected from infectious diseases like Hepetitis B, syphilis and HIV. The whoel reason why this screening is taken on pregnant woments is to reduce the risks of infections to the baby and the mother herself. Often some mothers who are infected with Hepetitis B will make the baby infected. By being infeted the babies is at risk as they could develop serious liver problems as they rgow older. The symptoms are not shown whether the pregnant wome is or is not infected. Another infectious disease that could trigger a pregnant women is syphilis. This is passed through intercourse and it can be treated with antibiotic in early stages. However, not treating this may affect the health of the women and her baby[ CITATION NHS189 \l 2057 ].
