The theme revealed in this quote is the mutual destruction that revenge ensures on the giver and the receiver. This gives insight into how little empathy Heathcliff feels towards Hindley while simultaneously foreshadowing his slowly suffocating doom. Watching Hindley wither and his ruin develop does not give Heathcliff the initial satisfaction assumed. Ultimately this is shown through Heathcliff not showing satisfaction through Hindley’s ultimate fate of doom. [Show More]
