Adventitious Breath Sounds • Crackles(rales)- fine, short, crackling. Air passing through fluid or mucus. • Gurgles(rhonchi)- low-pitched, coarse, gurgling, moaning, snoring. Best heard on expiration. Narrow passages as result of secretions, swelling or tumors. • Wheeze- high pitched, squeaky musical sounds best heard on expiration.
